Why the Taj Mahal is special
Most travelers call this wonder in India the world’s most beautiful building – ever. Some say it’s worth a trip half way around the world just to see it.
About my animated picture of the Taj Mahal
The hue of the marbled Taj Mahal of India varies from hour to hour, season to season. My picture on the left illustrates three of its most sublime times: daytime, sunset and full moon. I’ve experienced them all and was most moved by the last phase.
When to go – and not go
Best time
March to April and October to mid December are the ideal times.
Least desirable time
Heavy monsoon rains fall in July to mid September – and temperatures can be scorching from April to June.
Full moon - the good and the bad
The experience of seeing the Taj Mahal during a full moon (or on the night or two before or after that lunar event) is mesmerizingly mystical.
But this full-moon happening draws high tourist traffic, which partially diminishes the ethereal experience.
Your best bet is to arrive late at night when crowds have thinned.
