St. Martin’s Island or Saint Martin’s Island
St. Martin Island is located in the bay of bengal, Bangladesh. St. Martin’s Island is relatively a very small island to the North-east side of Bay of Bengal, about 9 km away from the south of Cox’s Bazar, precisely from Teknaf peninsula. The popular local name of this coral island is actually ‘Narikel Jinjira’ or Coconut Island, and the name was kept after a popular British provincial governor.St. Martin’s Island is one of the most popular travel places for sea lover.
St. Martin’s Island or Saint Martin’s Island is the only coral island in Bangladesh, and totally isolated from the main land. During 1890 to 1900, around 60 individuals started to live in the island, right now there are about 10000. Most of the island’s occupants are Muslimg, and live dependent on fishing.
St. Martin’s Island got about 8 sq km area, that decreases to near about 5 sq km while there remain under high tide.
