Fun travel destinations/activities near Pittsburgh for an anniversary?

My girlfriend and I have been together for 4 years this coming late September. We have never done anything that exciting because we’ve been poor and in college. I want to do something fun this year.

Our anniversary is late September and we have a ritual of going to every Pittsburgh Penguin home opening game, which is October 2 this year. Therefore, we can go to that game and make a weekend of it.

I want to go somewhere fun and romantic near Pittsburgh. Maybe 1 or 2 hours in any direction. Any suggestions?

Wow!!! giving that you are including areas two hours away gives you lots of things to do. If you like amusement parks you could go to Kennywood, or run out to Altoona, there is a place out there that is an amusement park out there that is really inexpensive. I think its called Lakeside or Lakewood. You could try going down to Maryland. Its actually about 2 and a half hours down to Deep Creek Lake, But this time of year would be nice scenery up there and plenty of things to do. Great horse back riding, several places there to rent horses. Fishing, boating, jet skiing, a couple of places to rent boats and jet skis right on the lake. It is kind of a hidden treasure. Not much out that way, and it leads down to Oakland, Maryland, the into the smaller towns of West Virginia, so it is not usually crowded at the lake.
